This President’s day weekend we went to Vancouver, WA to visit family, and FINALLY meet a mom friend who I’d met on a baby board back in 2013 when I was pregnant with Aeneas (3yrs old). It felt like I’d known her forever. We’d been through so much – having hyperemesis gravidarum throughout our first pregnancies; me struggling to get pregnant again and trying everything except IVF, to no avail; and her pregnancy struggles, that in the end, led to another pregnancy – creating another incredible baby boy. Shannon is also a blogger, and if you haven’t read her blog yet, you should: muchmostdarling.com – she is an incredible blogger, who writes about motherhood and life as it really is, not just as the perfect images that others may think we live!It was like meeting a long lost friend, and our sons clicked right away too!
They discussed dinosaurs, trains and construction site equipment, and LOVED playing at the Children’s Museum. We had such a great time with them. Now, this does not mean that there weren’t three year old’s fighting, or wrestling over a toy… That DEFINITELY happened. Yet the only thing Aeneas said when we had to leave their house was, “Mama, I don’t want to leave H. I don’t want to leave,” and during our drive home, he told me that he wanted to live near H so he could play with him all the time. I love how children are so open and loving no matter what happened five minutes ago. It’s something that we, as adults, can take a page from. Loving unconditionally is one of the best things that children do, and I hope to do be more like Aeneas every day.
I never thought I’d find such amazing friends, who feel more like family, through a baby board I joined on a whim when I was seven weeks pregnant with Aeneas. The women from J14 have been there through so much with us though, and every one of them I have met in real life, I have felt such a kinship with. If you have a chance to join a baby board, I recommend doing it. You may find the village you never knew you wanted, or needed. <3
